Baby Robins

Every May we have a robin who throws himself into our dining room window over and over and over again. I have always figured that he is protecting a nest from the "enemy bird" he sees not realizing it is his own reflection. However we've never seen a nest. Well, this year he and his mate decided that the cherry tree in front of the window was a good place to take up residency. We noticed the Mama bird sitting on a nest a few weeks ago. Through all the rotten rain we've had she sat and sat and sat.

We never did see any eggs but on Saturday I looked out and this is what I found:

So, now I am a bit obsessed with taking baby bird pictures. Here are the latest.
You can't really tell but she's feeding one of the babies here.

I tried to get both the nest and the Mama in this one. You can just make out one of the babies in the bottom right hand corner.

Hard working Mama!

Peter, Peter...

Punkin' Eater!!

This little guy says, "Who needs a stinkin' "squirrel-proof" bird feeder when you've got pumpkins on the front porch!" (Not to mention that the deer are moving in on his bird seed territory.)

A Walk in the Woods

Today, since it wasn't too frigid, Tom, Kyle, Rachael and I decided to take a jaunt over to the local wildlife center to feed the ducks. Unfortunately, (or fortunately if you're like me and HATE it when the geese attack you for your bagels!) there were signs proclaiming, "NO BREAD!" That's a change from when we used to go way back when but OK, no bread. Anyway we wandered around looking at the animals that are rehabbing at the center and then took the trail around the site.

Afterwards we found somewhere else where Tom and Rachael could feed the ducks, Kyle could pick the cactus spikes out of his fingers and I could sit in the car to keep warm!

Right where you least expect 'em

Matt found this little critter in the hinge part of the top of the garbage shed when he went to take out the trash. Nice, huh?

NOT!!!

Here's last year's slithering friend. They look pretty similar to me.

Oh, Deer!

I know I've posted pictures of "our" deer before but I just couldn't believe the shots I got yesterday. I opened the back door and stood on the porch and these ladies didn't even flinch. In fact, as you can see, they almost seemed to be posing for me!

Backyard visitor of a different kind

Everyone was happy to see the sun come out today! Even this little guy! I found him sunning himself on the leaves in some bushes near our mailbox!

Close Encounters of the Furry Kind!

Willy or Willemena? This woodchuck was pretty darn close but not that close! When we got home from the beach today I found our furry friend right outside the back door enjoying our healthy crop of clover. I didn't even have to use the zoom lens this time! The clover's been good to him/her, wouldn't you say??
