30 Hour Famine

This past weekend the boys and I, along with our Youth Group at church, participated in World Vision's 30 Hour Famine. We all fasted for 30 hours and asked people to sponsor us. All the money we raised goes to feeding the hungry of the world. We held bake sales, a car wash, made blankets that will be donated to sick children in hospitals, collected and delivered clothes and food to a local church, and made crosses to represent the 1,200 children who die from hunger every hour. The Glorification Singers held a concert on Friday night which was a lot of fun! We all slept in the church basement(a very hard floor!). All the kids slept in boxes. When our 30 hours were up Ginny Carter, Tia and Linda Hartman cooked us a delicious dinner. Here are some pictures. There is one of before we started but I was too busy eating to remember to take pictures of the kids eating! Everyone did a great job and we have raised over $2,000 so far. That will feed 66 children for one month!! If you would like to learn more about World Vision or to sponsor a child, visit www.worldvision.org.

You all did a great job. We are so lucky to live in this country. We are very proud of all three of you guys, and Tommy too for taking care of Rachael all day!

As usual they were playing their gameboys. They have a game called Nintendogs where you have virtual dogs that you have to take care of- feed, water, walk, bathe etc. They knew the dogs would be "parched and famished" by the time we came home on Sat. night. They also knew their father wasn't going to be feeding the dogs so...they got in as much play time as possible before we left for church!

Excellent. Good job. BTW, I am sure that Tommy also fasted while staying home with Rachael?

Oh, absolutely! When I couldn't get a hold of him on Sat. AM I thought he had taken Rachael to Friendly's for breakfast. Then I remembered that to Tom 30 hours is nothing! That's where I would have been but he was at Home Depot and a garden store!
